Rizzo hosts youth baseball camp in Rosemont

Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo instructed some 350 boys and girls on the fundamentals of baseball Monday inside Rosemont's indoor sports dome.

Rizzo threw whiffle balls during batting practice, talked the finer points of infield defensive strategy, gave high-fives and posed for pictures during the one-day baseball camp for youth in grades 1-8.

"This is our youth. This is our future of the game," Rizzo said. "MLB does a really good job of promoting the game to the younger generation."

"These kids are having fun. They're learning the game of baseball. I think it's really special to attach the Cubs name on it and my name on it."

Rizzo was assisted by high school and college baseball coaches, who ran various baseball skills stations inside the 140,000-square-foot dome.

Last year, Rizzo held his inaugural camp on the football field at Elk Grove High School.

On Wednesday morning, teammate Kyle Schwarber will host a baseball camp at Maine South High School in Park Ridge.
